1) What is fondant? Is it edible?

Fondant is a mildly sweet icing medium that is pure sugar. In my opinion, it is nowhere near as delicious as buttercream. It is used to give a smooth finish to cakes and seal in freshness. You can cut through it easily when slicing a cake. For fondant covered cakes, many folks peel the layer of fondant off like an orange rind and leave it on their plates. But some folks clean their cake plate, fondant and all! Fondant is not for everyone but, yes, it is completely edible.

2) Do you make wedding cakes?

Yes, I am very happy to make wedding cakes! However, Piper Cakes does not have the resources to produce large-scale cakes that typically feed hundreds of people. If your wedding cake needs are for a small, intimate affair, I will try to accommodate your request!

3) Do you make Adult/Naughty cakes?

Why yes. Yes I do. ;) Perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties or other adult cake occasions. The Adult Cake photo gallery has a few cakes, but please feel free to inquire for more details...

4) Do you deliver?

Piper Cakes will deliver your cake(s) in person if attending your event. Otherwise cakes can be picked up at my residence in Clifton, VA. I am sorry, but due to the fragile nature of these creations, Piper Cakes does not ship cakes or cupcakes.

5) How early do I need to request a cake?

In order to sufficiently prepare all materials, and sketch and finalize a concept, all cake requests are preferred at least two weeks prior to the event.

6) Where does the name 'Piper Cakes' come from?

Piper is something I identify with for many reasons. But a couple factors are (1) “Piper” is the name of the street I grew up on and lived for 14 years, and (2) “Piping” also refers to the act of putting icing details on a cake using a pastry bag. Seeing a quirky connection, I felt “Piper Cakes” was a good match.
