I began decorating cakes in 2001, when I signed up for a cake-decorating course at a local bakery in Austin, Texas. At the time, my motivation was to become skilled enough to create special birthday cakes for my own children one day, just as my mom had for my brother and I growing up.

But as my knowledge of cake decorating grew, so did my enthusiasm! I work full-time as an IT Project Manager, but make unique confections as often as I can. I enjoy learning new techniques and making cakes for other folks and their celebrations. Custom cakes make people happy!

I earned my degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. With my background and occupation, you may wonder – “Why cake decorating?” Aside from the fact that it’s a very delicious, well-received hobby, it’s also a creative outlet that allows me to be expressive. ;)

Curious where the name “Piper Cakes” came from? I identify with Piper for many reasons, but two main factors are (1) “Piper” is the name of the street I grew up on and lived for 14 years, and (2) “Piping” also refers to the act of putting icing details on a cake using a pastry bag. Seeing a quirky connection, I felt “Piper Cakes” was a good match!
